I had a chance to experience that sensation again this week with the Turnpike Troubadours. This Oklahoma based group is not new. I am just late to the party, but what a party it is. They are regional favorites, and their albums have had success on the country album charts. Jeff Floyd I Found Love On A Lonely Highway' title='Jeff Floyd I Found Love On A Lonely Highway' />The Turnpike Troubadours dont sound like anybody else in that is in the mainstream at the moment, and maybe that is what drew me to them. They are blazing their own trail with a mixture of country, rock and roll, and bluegrass. Their latest album, A Long Way From Your Heart, displays the amalgamation of sounds that exemplifies the Turnpike Troubadours. The album has a real down home, dirt under your fingernails sound, and the storytelling is outstanding. The entire album is enjoyable, but I will highlight a few of the tracks that stood out. The opening track, The Housefire, is a story of loss, both of possessions and relationships. However, instead of the expected downright despair of dealing with crisis, there is a sense of quite perseverance. The Winding Mountain Stair Blues gives you a heavy dose of high speed bluegrass. Unrung is about someone telling a friend to be careful getting involved with a younger woman. S3 Unichrome 3D Driver. It seems that caution has been thrown to the wind, and as the song says, that bell cant be unrung. I really like the sound of Pipe Bomb Dream, with its twangy lead guitar, fiddle, steel guitar, and, yes, real drums. It is a song about a guy that was trying to stay a step ahead of the law. Sunday Morning Paper is a tribute to the musical influences that are slowly passing us by. It starts slow, then cranks into a rollicking beat that is parts Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and Leon Russell. If you are looking for a refreshing sound that will deliver you from the mundane music factory that Nashville and every other music center is producing, check out the Turnpike Troubadours. Their blend of sounds and stortelling will give you hope in the future of music. There is nothing complicated here. Its just pure and simply enjoyable. You may not know the name Brad Hudson, but if you have listened to bluegrass, gospel, or attended a show at Dollywood you have probably heard him. Hudson has played with The Larkins who gained popularity at Dollywood, Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road, and gospel favorites Jeff and Sherri Easter. Recently, he has also appeared as a member of bluegrass supergroup Sideline. Now we have Brad Hudsons first solo project, Next New Heartbreak. The multi instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter highlights his talents on this new album, but he did not do it all on his own. Hudson receives help from Steve Dilling banjo and vocals, Skip Cherryholmes guitar and vocals, Aaron Ramsey mandolin and guitar, Ron Stewart fiddle and banjo, Clyde Mattocks dobro, Jeff and Sherri Easter vocals, Dolly Parton vocals, and even his grandma, Betty Swinson. With this collection of talent backing Hudson, you have an outstanding project. Some of the standout tracks on the album includes the up tempo opening track, Ramblers Song. You can picture the scenery flying past you from the inside of a tractor trailer cab with Truckers Blues. Smoky Mountain Strong is a song written in response to the wildfires that burned so many acres, and changed so many lives in the fall of 2. The resolve of the people of the mountains can be felt in this song. The Day My Daddy Cried is a powerful tear jerker. Grab the tissues. The gospel favorite Beulah Land features a bit of Hudsons grandma singing at the beginning. Then, he is joined by Jeff and Sherri Easter. It is a beautiful recording. Their are two great instrumentals included on the album, Hugging The Hound and My One and Only Crystals Song, the latter being a tribute to Hudsons wife. Whether it is with Sideline or as a solo artist, do yourself a favor and go to a concert featuring Brad Hudson. This talented artist will please your ears, whether as a singer or instrumentalist. All of those talents are on display on Hudsons new album Next New Heartbreak. Give this album a listen today. November 1, 2. 01. When Lee Ann Womack releases an album, everyone sits up and takes notice. One reason is that her recordings usually capture a voice that is pure keep that auto tune to yourself. Yet another reason is that Womack doesnt release albums as frequently as other artist. When her 2. 01. 4 release The Way Im Livin was issued, it had been six years since we had heard her on a new project. Part of that was because of a dispute with her former label. Now when she blesses us with a new album, it is the musical event of the season. Lee Ann Womacks latest project is The Lonely, The Lonesome The Gone. It finds her not only behind the microphone, but with pen in hand. Womack co wrote half of the albums songs. The album is a mixture of country, soul, blues, and gospel, with Womacks voice going from one style to another effortlessly. Her husband, Frank Liddell, is once again tapped as the producer. Some of the standout tracks on the album include, All the Trouble, a bluesy tune in which Womacks soulful delivery makes you hang on every phrase. Shine On Rainy Day, written by Brent Cobb and Andrew Combs, is reminiscent of a sound from the 6. End of the End of the World is a song about happens when things finally work out after it looks like love was on the rocks. Womack covers the Harlan Howard penned, Patsy Cline song, He Called Me Baby. It is a more gritty and soulful interpertation than Clines, which included horns and strings. The title track is one of my favorite tracks on the album. As on the other tracks, Womacks voice is front and center, and through it you can feel the emotion of the song. Antoher of my favorites is Wicked, a song with a lyrical and musical edge, that leaves you wondering just what occurred to lead this woman to end up in San Jacinto. You will not find modern country, or strictly traditional country sounds on this album. Rather, you will find pure Lee Ann Womack. I do not throw this comparison around lightly, but Womacks last two albums remind me of the musical choices that Willie Nelson has made in his career. It is almost impossible to peg Willie or Lee Ann as strictly one genre or another. It is better to label them as just what they are, themselves. Give The Lonely, The Lonesome The Gone a listen today, and if you are like me, you will give it more than one spin. October 2. 5, 2. 01. When you say Willie Nelson and stash, music might not be the first thing that comes to mind. In this case, it does involve music. Willie has pulled out a collection of recordings he made with his sons, Lukas and Micah, and is sharing his stash with the world. This is not the first time Willie has given us a taste of his stash. This latest album is Volume 2. The first volume was December Day with his sister, pianist Bobbie Nelson. Willie Nelson and The Boys, recorded in 2.
